Jannette Eyles

Jannette was born in Jamaica in 1953 the daughter of the late well known advertising executive and landscape painter Gerry Dunlop and Carmen Tai Dunlop now Bishopric.

Jannette was educated in England and graduated from the City and Guilds of London School of Art with a Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture in 1974. In 1973 Jannette won the prestigious Fedora Glichen Award given annually by the Royal Society of British Sculptors for an outstanding work of sculpture by a woman sculptor in Great Britain. This was the first time in the history of the Award that it had been awarded to a student.

Jannette is married to Charles Eyles, Dental Surgeon, they have two children, Charles born in 1975 and Carolee in 1977. They have built their home in the Kempshot mountains above Montego Bay where Jannette has her studio.

Jannette’s sculpture are wood carvings of feminine figures sometimes teamed with other materials. They reflect her journey of exploration into her own truest Being. They are a celebration of her growing awareness of the dynamic source and forms of Life Energy.

During her years exploring three dimensional form Jannette kept in touch with the world of colour dabbling on occasion with oil painting and pastel drawing. In 1991, attracted to it’s luminous qualities, she taught herself to use watercolours. Her paintings express her closeness to and reverence for nature, they range from large scenic vistas to intimate portraits of Jamaica, it’s people, culture and heritage.

Jannette expresses her creativity in both wood and watercolour exploring the splendour of Light both internal and external.

Jannette has had solo exhibitions, in England, in Washington DC, and several in Jamaica. She has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Jamaica and in the USA. Her works are to be found in both public and private collections in Jamaica, the USA, Canada, in the Royal collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2nd of England, and in the private collection of fashion icon Ralph Lauren.
